Take him. Or her. Or even me. We are greyhounds and were born to love
in spite of being bred to race. If we had a person like you, we could prove
it. Please don’t walk by without stopping to let us hear your voice. Or look
into your eyes. Or hold our head next to your heart. We dream of soft things and being with
children and other pets. We are clean and learn quickly where to live and
where to make our body waste. We are quiet and calm and need to love you. Stop and talk to us. He is black and she
is fawn and I am brindle but inside we are all gentle and sensitive and our
hearts are big and our love is deep. |

He loves to run, but can no longer race.
She is too small and I am too slow. We have heard them say those things and
know our time is short. But we love so much and want only to be ourselves for
you. Please just stroke our back or scratch our ears or rub under our chin
like any other dog and we will love you. |

So many of my brothers and sisters are
gone without the chance to love and be loved. He may be next and then she
will follow and then it will be me. Every single one of us that has the
chance to love you loves for all of us. Please don’t leave without him. Or her. Or even me. By Kevin Neuman, volunteer for GREY2K USA, Kansas City REtired Greyhounds as Pets and the 2004 International Greyhound Memorial Weekend organizer. |
